Facing Challenges: 5 Poin Pernyataan PSSI soal Paspor Pemain Indonesia di Belanda

PSSI’s National Team Body (BTN) Chairman Addresses Passport Controversy

In response to the recent passport dispute involving Indonesian players in the Netherlands, the chairman of PSSI’s National Team Body (BTN) issued a formal statement. The announcement, shared via a video on Friday (3/4), clarified that there are no legal issues or obstacles for Indonesian citizens living in the Netherlands.

“All players of Indonesian descent who have represented the national team, such as Justin [Hubner], Dean James, and Nathan [Tjoe-A-On], are currently under discussion in the media,” said Sumardji. “We emphasize that these players are fully recognized as Indonesian citizens (WNI). This status is legally valid and poses no problems.”

Five Key Points in the Statement

Sumardji outlined five main points to address the controversy. The second point highlighted that players born in the Netherlands possess verifiable Indonesian heritage, allowing them to claim citizenship through lineage.

“The third point is that our players demonstrate not only commitment but also capability through their hard work in training and matches,” he added. “They have sacrificed personal benefits, such as the need for permits or visas to reside and work abroad, by choosing Indonesian nationality.”

The fourth point noted that these players have maintained their trust within clubs despite career sacrifices. Finally, the fifth point stated that challenges in Eredivisie clubs are administrative issues tied to Dutch laws and regulations.

PSSI’s Efforts to Resolve the Issue

Through these five points, PSSI aims to clarify the situation and settle the ongoing debate. The organization also reaffirmed its moral support for the players. “These five points are intended to provide clear explanations and address current discussions,” Sumardji concluded.
